Ntare Histories

Stories from Ntare School, Uganda (Mbarara) 1965-69

This website has been set up to share stories and experiences of living and working at Ntare School in the late 1960s.

This was an optimistic post-colonial moment that followed Uganda's independence from Britain in 1962,

and preceded the coups and crises under President Idi Amin and President Milton Obote's second term.

Lasting friendships were formed between British teachers recruited through various overseas departments

and Ugandan staff and students, who include the country's current President, Mzee Yoweri Museveni.
